Trucks

Trucks have always been used as heavy utility vehicles for hauling, towing or other work related purposes. They are a highly secure road vehicle as they are mainly manufactured for carrying heavy loads for long distances. They work on gasoline engines for those for light medium duty, four stroke turbo intercooler diesel engines or V12 two stroke diesel engines for huge trucks, with automatic or semiautomatic transmission, with gears from 5 to 12. This lowers fuel consumption and the truck’s durability is considerably enhanced.

In recent times, trucks offer more power, versatility and style than ever before with the big car manufacturers honing in on the truck market with increased effort and variety.

Best Trucks

US manufacturers are continuing their dominance in the truck market. The Chevrolet Silverado has already gained huge market share as a powerful half-ton crew cab model with the Vortec MAX 6.0l V8 and available MAX Trailering Pack. The GMC Sierra and the Toyota Tundra who belong to the same class as the Chevy Silverado are also excellent choices in the larger pickup category, offering strength and increased durability.

In the three-quarter-ton and one-ton models, the Dodge Ram heavy duty lines are rated highly. The Dodge Ram Mega Cab rides and drives like a heavy duty pickup, regardless of the 1500, 2500, or 3500 rating. The Dodge Truck Mega Cab body style easily accommodates five adults with only the Tundra's CrewMax cab offering comparable passenger space.

Another strong competitor in the market is the Ford Super Duty (Ford SD) series, which comes in either regular cab, supercab and crew cab with a range of super duty engines from a 5.4-liter Triton V-8, a 6.4-liter Triton V-10 and a 6.4-liter Power Stroke Diesel V-8. The release of the Ford F-450 SD stood out in the truck market for brute force and power. It has been given a towing capacity in excess of 24,000 pounds and a payload capacity in excess of 6,000 pounds. Another clear winner for Ford is the Ford F-350 SD which was given a best-in-class payload and weight ratings.

The Toyata Tundra is another highly rated truck with its 381-hp 5.7-liter V8 and six-speed automatic transmission providing true speed and power. Likewise, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra are also packed with a 6.0-liter V8 with a four-speed automatic transmission enabling a towing capacity in excess of 10,000 pounds. The advantage of the GMC Sierra series is that is has a wider range of V8 engine options providing a wider choice for those budget concerned consumers.

Another solid competitor in the market is the no frills and brawny Nissan Titan large truck. It comes with a powerful V8 and plenty of interior space. It is not as polished as other trucks such as the Tundra but still competes well in the market.

For less intense payloads and cargo capacity, the Chevy Avalanche and Honda Ridgeline are excellent choices. The Chevy Avalanche offers creative cargo space enabling drivers to extend the cargo bed into the rear part of the passenger compartment. The Honda Ridgeline on the other hand offers comfort, style and usability whilst lacking in cargo space and off road capability. However, a great choice for those with modest truck requirements and who have a concern for style.

More expensive trucks like the Cadillac Escalade EXT and Lincoln Mark LT do not have all the functional capacities as the other big trucks, however, they are jam packed with state of the art technology and features for passenger comfort.

At the lower end of the truck range in both style and performance are the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon and Isuzu i-Series which whilst are solid and affordable options, they do not keep up with Dodge, Nissan and Toyota in power.
